My collection of graphic novels.
Client: Student Project
This is Interposed & Orbiting, which is an original sci-fi comic book series that I created. The series uses aliens as metaphor for multiculturalism and speaks on topics of mixed ethnicity/race, societal expectations, and self-acceptance. It also weaves humor into these topics in order to make the series more lighthearted and digestible to a wider audience.
Posters/Covers
The image depicts the main character in a hunched position to display her vulnerability as a character in the narrative, as well as five silhouettes of the other main characters that are featured in this graphic novel. It also features her clutching a necklace--it is a small detail, but an important nod to her motivation as a character.
The main character is the focal point of the piece and she is both being surrounded by the unsettling laughter and being highlighted by it. Line is used as value in this piece to create unity between this poster and the graphic novel design and gradients are used to transition into the night sky and to create dimension between the background and the figure.
The image features one of the main characters in the series placed both literally and figuratively between two worlds and uses intense colors and shadows to portray the beauty and vastness of outer space. Line is used to create value for this piece in order to create unity with the graphic style used in the book itself.
Spreads
These are some of the spreads from my novels that best capture the style I created for this series, as well as the story moments that were the most impactful for the narrative and the viewer.
Storyboards
These are some of the storyboards that I created in order for me to plan out how I would frame my layout for my spreads and were an important part in the process to create these works.
Collateral
These are images of the collateral that I created for my senior show that further cemented the world I created in my comics into the real world. I created bookmarks, stickers, and packaging for this series.
