Client: Student Projects
These projects are all video works that I wrote, filmed, and edited. This page consists of five different video works--all with different concepts and editing styles. I tried to show a variety of different works that I've done, but for all of these works, I try to emphasize tone, dialogue, and sound. You can see even more of my videography on my Youtube channel.
UNO Ad Parody
This video is an UNO advertisement parody where the product is flipped on it's head so that instead of a card game ad, UNO is advertised as a fortune-telling device to "solve all your problems". This strange, unrealistic concept is even brought up in the video as a complaint to the narrator, only for this fortune-telling device to further cement itself in this video's reality. This is all done through humor as a way to deliver a fun, playful twist on a famous card game. The music, acting, and dialogue were all considered when putting this video together and throughout the editing process to add to the playfulness of the video.
The SWM Pill
This video is a fake advertisement for a fictional pill that turns whoever takes it into a Straight, White Man as a solution to discrimination, hate crimes, and inequality. I wrote this video script to contain a lot of sarcastic humor to hyperbolize this as a non-solution, and to further comment on the issues of inequality and the lack of a perfect solution. I also edited it in a way that mimics sketchy American medicine commercials to further prove this point.
The Adventures of Man-Bat and Boy-Goose
This narrative-driven video is a 1960's Batman parody that features comedy, The Office-style cutaways, and lots of greenscreen. The video rapidly switches from serious to nonchalant to push the comedy further. I also wanted this particular video to feel very homemade -- hence the raggedy costumes and very-obviously-greenscreen cats -- to add as further nod to the 1960's Batman tv show's cheesy effects. I also edited the intro to be in high contrast and high saturation, as well as used Dutch angles for every character intro to show off the very playful and whimsical atmosphere of this work.
The World Wasn't Made for Me
This video represents a day in the life of an asexual person, and depicts how it might feel to be asexual in a sexual world. This video focuses on the feelings of being a fish out of water and the dissonance between oneself and society. I help emulate these feelings through music choice and audio. In the video, the song "Cake by the Ocean" -- a song that embodies a sexual innuendo -- changes to "I Want to Break Free" -- a song that embodies liberation and a longing to escape a confined situation -- as a way to directly reference this desire for the asexual character. I also filmed the main character both waking up and going to sleep in order to show that this is their reality, their everyday feelings. This video offers a more sincere and reflective tone as opposed to most of my other video works.
Extra Gum Ad
This video mimics an Extra Gum advertisement with their famed slogan, "Chew it before you do it." I wrote and edited the video in a way to make it feel like an Extra Gum ad you could actually see in real life with minimal dialogue and a quick plot to follow. I used greenscreen for this project and created a mask around the green gum packet frame by frame so that it didn't blend into the greenscreen, as well as added in many different lighting effects on both the actors and the background to create a more lively atmosphere for the party depicted in the video.
